Maggie Says

My husband tans like nobody I know. He walks outside and the sun smiles upon him so it's not surprising that he is already a dark golden shade in early April. When he went in to get Maggie one recent morning, she noticed his darkened skin.

Her room is shaded so things look darker even with the sunlight filtering through the blinds and curtains, and apparently Jorde's changing appearance puzzled Maggie. She asked him, Daddy, what wong wit'choo hands? Are you b'yack?

**********

Maggie has been very interested in golf the past few months and Jorde loves it. About a week ago, he took Maggie to the golf store and let her pick out a grip (hot pink), cut down an old putter, and made a Maggie-sized golf club for her. She was thrilled!

Jorde showed her how to hold the club and she is really good at that. Last night he was showing her how to not just swing forward, but to swing back, then forward (he called it 'swinging through', Maggie called it 'back n forth').

She was getting the hang of it when one of our kitties, Chloe, laid down right in front of her, rolling around on her back and begging for some lovin'. Maggie was indignant, and sweeping her foot toward Chloe, said Hey, move! I twyin ta gowlf!

Incidentally, her favorite target is our other kitty, Cosmo. He loves to play with the golf balls, so I suppose as long as her putts lack strength and speed, him being a target suits them both well :)

Maggie learned a new children's church song:

Da B-I-B-I-B, dats a book fuh me
A 'tand ayone, a word a God, a B-I-B-I-B

Another favorite is Jesus Loves the Little Children, but her version ends with Jesus loves the little children of the Lord, not world. It's really cute. When Hubby or I have corrected her, or have sung it correctly, she then corrects us, No, Daddy, yike dis: 'Jesus loves the yittle childwen of the Looord'.

Not to brag too much about my lovely child, but I have to tell y'all: she is CRAZY good at remembering words and melodies. Hubby is hoping she becomes a singing drummer :)

My girl has begun practicing the art of persuasive conversation. Her favorite word when trying to talk me or Jorde into something? Just.

Mommy, I can haf a snack? I wan' da yogu't waisins.
Not right now, honey, dinner is almost ready.
But, I can, I can, I wan'da have jus one, Mommy, jus one (using her sweetest voice and holding up her finger so I understand 'just one').

She employs this same wheedling technique when told it's time for bed or time to leave a grandparent's house by saying, Can i pway for jus' one more minute? Jus' ONE minute ... pwease?

Or like this:

Daddy, I wan'da go to da paw'eek.
Sorry girl, not today, it's too hot outside.
But I jus wan'da go fuh a yittle bit (using her thumb and index finger to indicate 'yittle bit')

**********

Mommy, I sweepy. I nee' da go da bed, and when I waked up in da mowrnin, I jus wan'da go to Nowah's house. (She always wants to go to Norah's!)

**********

Lately, when the answer continues to be 'no' or 'later', she throws either (1) what she is holding, or (2) herself onto the floor and pouts, which begins a whole other conversation about feelings and how to express them. Good times :)

Zoo Trip

Our little family visited the zoo this morning. We always have such a fun time, especially Maggie.

Today was extra special because the zoo was celebrating Earth Day today, so Maggie got to color a tiger picture and make a tiger paw out of clay and paint it, which is right up her creative alley.

The carousel was her favorite thing today, and she rode it twice. It's possible we have the only princess who chooses to ride an alligator ... she's a funny girl :)

Maggie's Milk

My mom helped a neighbor yesterday by watching a 14 month-old girl for most of the day, until the grandmother picked her up. Maggie loved having a baby around, although she wasn't too keen on sharing Nana's lap.

When I picked her up from my mom's after work, Maggie told me she "help taked care of a baby". I asked if she had fun and she replied, "Yeah. She twied to take my milk."

Note that the baby did not actually get the milk, but that seems to be the one thing Maggie remembers about the little girl. It was the first thing she told Jorde about when we got home, she repeated it to me a couple of times on the way home, and she had been telling my mom about it all afternoon.

So, fair warning: do not try to take Maggie's milk! She will neeeeever forget it :)

A Cold & Windy Day

Maggie has really enjoyed the kite Jorde and I gave her as a birthday gift. Earlier today was really windy and so perfect for kite flying.

Unfortunately, it was also really cold and because it is ... well ... April, neither Jorde nor I were prepared with a jacket (for Maggie) or long-sleeves and pants (for us). We enjoyed the kite flying as much as we could but cut it short due to the fact that Maggie and I were freezing.

It was great fun while it lasted, though ... :)

Maggie Words

Recent conversations with our Doodlebug:

I want'a go out-sigh'eed and to see da fauck.
Um, what honey?
I want'a see da fauck.
I'm sorry, Maggie. Mommy didn't understand you. Can you say it again?
I want'a see da fauck.
To see the what?
The fauck.
The ... duck?
No, da fauck.
The ... fauck?
Yeah!
What does the fauck do, Maggie?
It f'yies.
Flies? Do you mean a hawk?
Yeah! A fauck!
Oooooh. Honey, can you say this, please? Huh-huh-hawk.
Huh-huh-hawk.
That's a girl. Pronounce that 'h', Bug.

We've been having some issue with the girl not wanting to poop on the potty. While at Grandma's over the weekend, she did it in her panties before anyone could catch her. Grandma graciously cleaned Maggie up and got her clean panties to wear. When Grandpa asked what happened, Maggie told him it was a ball'a poop. We tried not to laugh right out loud ... some of us weren't successful.

Maggie and Grandma were playing with the princesses, with Maggie being Cinderella and Grandma playing the Prince. When the Prince asked Cinderella to dance at the ball, Cinderella told him no, because I can't dance with da Pwince until I o'der.

Every night at bedtime, after teeth brushing and foot washing, book reading, rocking and prayers, Maggie turns on the little floor fan in her room. Each time this past week, when she turns around and stands up from switching the fan on, she comes over to me with one of her hands cupped and whispers I got air in my hand, with the most excited, awe-struck smile on her face. She takes her palm full of air to bed with her, and we are very careful when I cover her up. Her imagination makes me smile :)

Jorde has Mondays off and that is his day to spend with Maggie. Today when he asked her what she wanted to do, Maggie told I want'a go to da go'eef stow'ey. She likes to whack da bawl. He's getting her addicted at a young age :)

**********

Last night while I ran into grocery store for a few things, Maggie and Jorde waited for me in the car. Jorde got a whiff of something and, turning to Maggie in the backseat, had this conversation:

Maggie, did you poopy in your panties?
Nooo.
Did you toot?
Of course I did!
Well, what do you say when you toot?
Paaaw-diiiin!

**********

Random colloquy from the backseat: Mom, when I woked up and Daddy comed in my woom, I said "pee-yew!". Daddy was stinky because he need to taked a shower. Later, when Jorde asked if Maggie wanted to take a shower, too, she replied, I don't taked a shower because I love baths.

**********

Maggie was peaking in the room where Grandma was hiding eggs (it's not just an Easter thing for her) and Jorde called her back, saying, "You can't go in there! You're cheating!"

To which Maggie replied I not cheatin because I Mawgwet Gwace Webb.

An Easter / Birthday Celebration

Happy Easter! I hope your day was a wonderful as ours.

We started the day with Mass, and followed it with a day of family fellowship. Throw in an Easter basket, egg hunting, and birthday cake with a chocolate rabbit on top, and you have a happy 3 year old, too J

Easter & Birthday Preparation

Maggie's 3rd birthday is on Easter this year, so she and I had two things on our agenda this weekend before Sunday - to dye eggs and to make her birthday cake.

We accomplished both and had a blast J

A Fashion Statement

The princess dressed herself today, complete with tiara, jewelry, tutu and rain boots.

My girl definitely makes a fashion statement.

I'm not sure what that statement is, but it makes me smile J
