Sleeping Like A Baby

This is how the sleeping starts out.

And this is how it ends. Which would explain the grunting I often hear :)

Where did the other sock go?!

Where For Art Thou, Sleep?

Oh my.

The Tired ... it is a-catchin' up.

I have never felt so exhausted ever.

Jet lag doesn't do this.

All-nighters during college didn't do this.

One teeny-tiny person, however, has completely wrecked a perfectly good sleep schedule :)

Not that I mind - I wouldn't trade Maggie for all the sleep time in the world, y'all know that! And don't take this as complaining, because I'm not, I promise. I'm just wondering how on earth I will be able to function when I go back to work next week.

I had no idea that every little squeak, squirm, coo, grunt (or toot, as it has been lately), OPENS my eyes WIDE, no matter what time of day or night. No matter that it's just Maggie settling down or shifting position, my Superman level of hearing catches it, and even if she doesn't need me for anything right then, I'm awake. Which isn't so bad, really. It's the difficulty falling back to sleep that has me in a near-zombie state by 3pm some afternoons.

And I've never caught on to that whole "sleep when baby sleeps" thing. My naps (which have totalled about 3 in the almost 8 weeks I have been home) have been less "naps" and more "instant coma in a recliner", right in the middle of the day. Does passing out count as a nap?

And Hubby!! How he does not hear Maggie in the middle of the night is making me wonder if I'll ever be able to leave him alone and in charge of the child for a girls-weekend adventure before she's able to drive! Heck, he often doesn't hear me when I ask him to check on her (the cradle is on his side of the bed). Jabbing hasn't worked yet, either ... all I get in reply is snoring. My friend, Misti, assures me that Hubby is "standard issue" and that for whatever reason, dads aren't endowed with the same Super Powers as moms.

Sigh.

At least when I'm wide awake I have a beautiful baby girl to look at :)

April 8th vs May 26th

Today is Maggie's original due date, so I thought I'd post a couple of pictures - one from the hospital and one from today - so everyone can compare.

She's officially outgrown her preemie clothes and is now wearing newborn, though as you can see, even the newborn stuff is a little bit big on her! She's still sweetly petite but already growing too fast!

Love and hugs to you, sweet girl :)

A Little Bit O'Danny

So, here's my little brother, all grown up. I thought those of you who knew him growing up might like to see him all spiffy :)

My mom took these pics today at the opening of Wal-Mart in Maricopa, where Danny is the APC (Asset Protection Coordinator) ... he's basically the merchandise security manager, as best as I understand it. Until his promotion, he was on the floor tackling people who were stealing - which he totally loved :) Now, he's all gussied up and in charge!

He's the good-lookin' redhead in the suit :)

Congrats on your promotion, lil' bro!

Maggie In Motion

Live - from Mesa, Arizona!

I don't know if this is going to work or not ... if it does, here's a short clip of a daily occurrence in Maggie's life ... hiccups! It's not perfect as it was done on our digital camera, but something's better than nothing, and it's too cute not to save for posterity :) One of these days, we're going to have to invest in one of those flip cameras like Cindy has - until then ... enjoy grainy but cute :)

Bath Time for Maggie

Here is a not-so-favorite activity of our little girl ... I'm sure she's not going to hate us later in life for sharing her naked pictures on the internet :) Y'all won't tell on us, will you?

This is a face y'all don't see often, and though it really doesn't happen often, it does exist :) Even her pink rubber ducky (or rubber cow-ducky ... yes, you read that correctly) doesn't help her enjoy bath time. She's getting better, though, and it's getting easier bit by bit. The really bad part is going from the warm bath water to the towel - those 3 seconds of chilliness cause massive squealing and gnashing of teeth ... or gums, as it is :)

Finally, warmth and a binky :)

Bathing her squirmy little self can be challenging, depending on the amount of resistance I get from her on that particular day, but lotioning (is that even a word?) her up afterward is like trying to hang on to a greased pig! She can be a slippery little sucker! Once we're all done, though, she's so sweet smelling - if only we could bottle that baby smell. It's what heaven must smell like ... it's just too precious.

Oh, as a side note, this bath took place because Hubby was officially "christened" by Maggie. Apparently, while I was conveniently out of the house for a lab test, Maggie both pooed and had a massive spit-up on her dad - twice, actually :) The poo-leakage spilled out while she was having lunch, and the spit-up occurred first when Hubby was trying to clean her up and change her diaper, and second, after they were both clean and relaxing in the recliner. Never underestimate the power of a good burping after a meal - it seems Maggie had an air bubble that didn't burp out well, then continued her noshing on top of it. So, ya know, what went in on top of that bubble came out! Thus, bath time in the middle of the day, as opposed to before our nighttime feeding like we normally do.

Welcome to fatherhood, Hubby :)

How about those gorgeous baby blues? :)

Hubby's 2 Girls

I think Maggie has a little competition for Hubby's attentions. Chloe has been much more cuddly than usual with him since Maggie's been home, as evidenced by the pictures below.

I'm pretty sure Chloe's going to lose that contest :)

This picture is just because I thought it was cute...

Gotta love her!

One Month Old

This past Friday was Maggie's 1 month birthday. Unfortunately, we had to celebrate with a visit to the doctor's office for a check-up.

Maggie has definitely gotten the hang of this eating thing - her weight is up to 6 pounds, 1 ounce, and she's 19 inches long! She's growing by leaps and bounds and she's only a month old!

Already, I want to be able to pause time so she doesn't get too big too fast ... she just too precious exactly as she is :)

Unfortunately, the doctor visit did include a shot. It made Maggie scream and cry, and yes, it made me cry, too. I'm seriously considering having Hubby take her in next time just because I just hated seeing her hurt like that. It was awful.

She did get a Bugs Bunny band-aid, but I don't think she was in an appreciative mood :)

Oh, and as a side note, it was nice having a Mother's Day that didn't cause tears :) We had a nice dinner with my and Hubby's parents, Uncle Danny, our niece Megan, and her friend Nestor. Good dinner, good conversation, relaxing afternoon ... and it wasn't at my home!! It felt so good to be outside of my own home - I had been home these past 4 weeks, only taking Maggie out to go to the doctor, attend a baby shower, and go once to church, to give her little body and immune system a chance to grow and mature, but I'm close to going stir crazy! It's fantastic being home with Maggie all day, but I believe I need more adult stimulation :) God bless the stay-at-home moms! I love it but had never considered what you miss out on adult-wise. It's worth it, just takes some adjusting.

Okay, and now for the cuteness! Maggie has her eyes open more now ... especially at 2am, according to her Dad (I wouldn't know as that is not my feeding time!)

Do you see Cosmo wanting to get in and play?!

It looks like her eyes may be blue - yea!! We both are hopeful, anyway :)

More Visitors and Lots of Cuteness

Maggie had a car load of visitors on Saturday. First to cuddle up was Great-Aunt Susie...

Next to love on her was Cousin Sandra...

And then, Cousin Matt's wife, Cousin Kate, had a chance for some baby snugglin'...

Cousin Matt came over, as well, and was given the opportunity to hold Maggie, but her teeny-tiny-ness was a bit intimidating, and he deferred until she's of more substantial presence ;)

Interestingly, we've found that her size (or lack thereof) is a common issue for many people we know who have stopped by to see her, and they would rather wait to cuddle her until she's bigger. Except for random old people at church who come over to kiss our baby or hold her, and we find out later that NEITHER OF US KNOW THEM. Seriously, it's weird and rather disturbing. I'm tempted to get a shirt that just says "If you don't know me, don't touch my kid, weirdo". The weirdo part is too much, isn't it? :) Anyway...

These pictures are just to share the cuteness ... enjoy!
